In these days prof. Ing. Milan Dado, PhD., Former President of the Slovak Rectors' Conference (2000 - 2002) and Rector of the University of Žilina in Žilina (1996 - 2002), commemorates his anniversary.
Professor Milan Dado is dedicated to research of optical fibers and high-speed fully transparent optical networks, telecommunications and information technologies and services, and regional innovation development. Since 1990, he has been actively involved in broad international cooperation and participated in solving a number of international projects. One of the first was TEMPUS projects. Since 1993, he has been the national coordinator of several international EU COST events for telecommunications and information technologies and a member of the Technical and later COST Domain Committee for telecommunications and information technologies. He was a representative of the Slovak Republic in other committees, e.g. for e-learning and for innovation. He collaborated on the preparation and led other projects under the 6th and 7th Framework Programs of the EU and the HORIZON 2020. The most important of these projects was the ERAchair project in the field of intelligent transport systems.
Professor Milan Dado has so far co-authored three books, 6 scripts, more than 70 scientific papers and studies published abroad, registered in major international databases more than 100 professional and popular-scientific articles and papers, published at various conferences, in the press and mass media.

From 1990 to 1996 he worked as the Vice-Rector for Development and International Relations at the then University of Transport and Communications (now the University of Žilina in Žilina) and subsequently from 1996 to 2002 as a Rector. From 2000 to 2002, he was the President of the Slovak Rectors' Conference, during a difficult period when the University Act was being prepared (No. 131/2002 Coll.). Professor Milan Dado remained in academic positions, he was the Vice-Rector of the University of Žilina for Development, the head of the Department of Telecommunications (Department of Telecommunications and Multimedia) and later also the Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the University of Žilina in Žilina.
He has been awarded several times for his activities. In 2006, the President of the Slovak Republic awarded him an important state award - the Award of Ľudovít Štúr II. class for exceptionally significant merits in the field of development of science and technology and for extremely important dissemination of the good name of the Slovak Republic abroad. In 2014, he became an honorary citizen of the city of Žilina. In 2017, Professor Milan Dado was awarded Scientist of the Year in the Personality of International Cooperation category.
