Short description

The Catholic University in Ružomberok (CU) is a public university located in Ružomberok, Slovakia. Founded in 2000, the university is known for its emphasis on Christian values and offers a variety of undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs. It aims to provide high-quality education while fostering moral and ethical development based on Catholic teachings. CU is a medium-sized institution in Slovakia with a diverse student body. The university is both teaching and research-oriented, with a balanced emphasis on providing quality education and contributing to academic research.

Scientific research/artistic projects

Scientific research of the Catholic University in Ružomberok (CU) is characterised by its interdisciplinary nature, encompassing a wide range of fields including education, humanities, economics, social sciences, and natural and health sciences. CU also provides support for the professional development of its academic staff and the enhancement of doctoral programmes. Institute of Sacral Art and Institute of Ecclesiastical History represent two of the most prominent research institutes. The Centre of Excellence at the Faculty of Theology is concerned with the dialogue between religions and society. In 2023, the establishment of the Institute of Transdisciplinary Studies was initiated with the objective of fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, promoting innovation in curricula, enhancing the quality of research, and establishing links between academia and practical application. It is noteworthy that seven Excellent Researcher R2-R4 projects are currently underway.

International relations

The Catholic University in Ružomberok (CU) is an active member of several significant international organizations. Since 2007, the university has been a member of the European Federation of Catholic Universities (EFCU), and in 2010, joined the International Federation of Catholic Universities

(IFCU). Additionally, CU is also part of the International Catholic Association of Educational Institutions. CU participated in the Newman Benchmark evaluation provided by IFCU, allowing it to assess its internal systems. CU is an active member of Catholic Universities Partnership (CUP). In 2018, CU signed the Magna Charta Universitatum, in 2023 CU joined the 3SUN Network, and became part of the Baltic University Programme (BUP). CU is a member of U10+, in June 2023, CU joined the Slovak Association for the Quality of Higher Education. CU faculties TF, FE, and FAL participate in the CEEPUS network, promoting international cooperation in science and the arts.
