Short description

The Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava (STU) is a modern research and higher education institution with 88 years old history. STU offers education in technical fields and involves students in research in natural sciences, computer sciences, construction, architecture, materials technologies, chemistry and food technologies. At international level, STU has closed hundreds of collaboration agreements with foreign universities, faculties and research institutes. Research teams at STU are involved in international projects and annually deal with about 900 research projects funded through grants and hundreds of research contracts commissioned by businesses. Almost 11,000 students attend its 7 faculties and the Institute of Management. The University offers 3 types of degrees – Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral.

Scientific research/artistic projects

The Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava (STU) is among the most successful organizations in Slovakia in terms of the number of funded projects and the amount of contribution received from the Horizon framework programs and other schemes managed by the European Commission. In 2024, out of 55 projects submitted in the Horizon program, 2 were ERC grants – 1 Starting grant faculty. In the given year, STU participated in the implementation or received funding for 39 projects in the total amount of EUR 6,275,793.31. STU also managed to obtain another project in the Twinning scheme as a consortium coordinator and the first EIC Pathfinder. The key research areas are: Information and communication technologies, Nanotechnologies and advanced materials, Secure, clean and efficient energy, Climate action and environment, Euroatom. STU is also active in filing patents abroad. In 2024, it filed 4 PCT

applications, 1 EU trademark application and 1 design application with the EUIPO. STU is one of the European Union scientific institutions that have received the “HR Excellence in Research” label.

International relations

Since 2023, the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava (STU) has been a member of the EUliST alliance within the framework of the European Universities Initiative – Linking science and society scheme (https://eulist.university/). The goals of the alliance EULiST – European Universities Linking Society and Technology are: Educate multilingual, socially responsible European citizens who build and strengthen the link between science and society; Developing innovative and flexible teaching formats and curricula with close and sustainable integration of cutting-edge research; Establishing cross-border teams of students, scientists and regional actors who develop sustainable solutions for contemporary societal challenges in transnational, interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral constellations. STU is involved in projects focused on internationalization within the framework of the Recovery and Resilience Plan: Call for support for projects promoting higher education institutions abroad and Audit of the level of internationalization.
