Short description

The Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra (SUA) is a public university, that has been preparing specialists across the agrarian and food sector since 1952. SUA is the only agricultural university in the Slovak Republic. According to the current worldwide evaluation of SCIMAGO Institutions Rankings 2024, SUA is the 5th best university in Slovakia out of 16 evaluated universities and is also ranked by Times Higher Education World University Ranking. There are 87 accredited study programmes, 15 of them in English. Educational and research profile of SUA is characterized by the main pillars of classical fields of study in agriculture and landscaping, food industry, biology, biotechnology, engineering, ecological and environmental sciences, economics and management. SUA holds a leading position in the field of agricultural research in Slovakia and Central Europe.

Scientific research/artistic projects

Scientific research orientation of the Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra (SUA) covers a wide range of agricultural, technical, social and economic sciences in the field of basic and applied research. The AgroBioTech Research Centre plays a significant role as a university-wide, specialized facility, which performs concentrated innovative research in the relevant fields aimed at conducting new methods and procedures in research, especially within applied research, with the important goal of transferring its results into practice. In the area of project activities, SUA is involved in a wide range of both educational and research projects including Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe programs. SUA has 180 bilateral agreements within the Erasmus+ program and more than 130 inter-university cooperation agreements worldwide. SUA is a member of the Global Consortium for Higher Education in Agriculture,

European University Association, Danube Rectors´ Conference, Association for European Life Science Universities and is a founding member of Visegrad University Association. SUA also actively cooperates with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

International relations

The Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra (SUA) is the leader of the INVEST European University Alliance (https://invest-alliance.eu/?mode=preview), which unites a diverse group of institutions across Europe. This alliance includes the Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra (Slovakia), the University of Agribusiness and Rural Development in Plovdiv (Bulgaria), the University of Thessaly in Volos (Greece), Karelia University of Applied Sciences in Joensuu (Finland), the University of Reims Champagne-Ardenne (France), the University of Milano-Bicocca (Italy) and the University of Cordoba (Spain). Together, these institutions collaborate under the European Commission’s initiative to form and evaluate European Universities, aiming to enhance educational quality and integration across the continent.

SUA has also been approved by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) as an EIT Food Hub and will be able to use the EIT Food Hub logo to contribute to the development of new entrepreneurial talents, support their innovative ideas and expand activities within three missions: Healthier Lives Through Food – EIT Food, Net Zero Food System – EIT Food, Reducing Risk for a Fair and Resilient Food System (https://eit.uniag.sk/).
